AIDS, owing to the nature of its transmission, seems thus far to be limited to certain high-risk groups. Included among these are sexually active Gay and bisexual men, intravenous drug abusers and their sex partners, hemophiliacs and recipients of blood products, and children of infected mothers. It must also be added that a disproportionately high percentage of United States AIDS cases are found among recent immigrants from Haiti and Central Africa where AIDS is commonplace among heterosexuals.
The reader should note carefully that inclusion in a high-risk group is not a priori an indication of increased risk. High-risk groups are defined for epidemilogical purposes and do not predetermine that all individuals within a group are at risk of developing AIDS.
A complete epidemilogical breakdown of statistics per group is included in the "Statistics and Charts" section included in The AIDS Stack.
